We celebrated growing to 100 primary members in just 3.5 short months!
Esther Byrd, the President, shared why we started the Club and how it's serving our mission to engage women in politics and government in a healthy, balanced and productive way in furtherance of our shared values. We celebrated the success of our membership drive, which brought us from 76 members on May 5th to 104 on June 15th. Cori Bylund won the contest and will receive a $100 Visa Gift Card! Barbara Ray was celebrated for having recruited the 10 members!
Our speaker was State Rep. Kiyan Michael, who drove directly from Tallahassee to be with us after the legislature finally ended Sine Die at 11:19pm yesterday. She shared her "why" for running for office. Her 21 year old son, Brandon, was killed by a twice-deported illegal alien and that thrust her into advocacy for stronger immigration laws. She educated us on some of the successes and challenges of the 2025 Legislative Session and that she's pushing to keep $14 million in appropriations for our district in the budget. Her dedication to serving our district was apparent. Her positivity was felt and appreciated by all!
Esther advised that we are taking July off so there will be no regular meetings. Look out for a special networking meeting and Club photo shoot though!
We discussed upcoming events and Esther shared that we have a new text line for the Club and urged us to save 904.650.0630 in our phones. In addition to receiving Club texts, members can text questions and information to that number. For members who are not receiving Club emails, she suggested that we search our email for jbrwc.wildapricot.org and save it as a favorite.
We ended by discussing upcoming events for the Club, in the community and around the state:
